Coffee production in Tanzania dates back to the 1890s, when coffee was introduced by German settlers from neighboring Kenya. The first coffee plant was planted near Bagamoyo, a town on the coast of Tanzania. Coffee production has grown over time and today it ranks as one of Tanzania's top export commodities.
